THE LAND: 2014 overseas exhibition of CCAF Vancouver (Chinese Canadian Artists Federation in Vancouver)
Canada, a country with expanses of land and an abundance of resources, is considered an immigrant haven. By the same token, immigrant groups of various cultural heritage have diversified and enriched the landscape of Canadian culture and art. Over the decades many Chinese artists have also been drawn to the country and brought with them their talents. After many years of hard work and dedication, they have now made Chinese art a part of the mainstream cultural fabric and stand proud of the achievement.
A year ago, Mr. Chun-Chieh Chang, a former curator of the National Taiwan Arts Education Center, shared with me his dream to hold an art exhibition in our Center, showing the achievement of Chinese artists in Canada. He felt that it would not only provide an opportunity of communication between Chinese-Canadian artists and Taiwanese artists, but also expand the horizon of art-lovers. I was very glad to offer my help to make this a reality. Subsequently, Professor James Chang Fu Liu undertook the task of planning. He chose “The Land” as the theme, asking participating artists to submit works portraying Canadian landscape and/or cultural diversity in any media or form of their choice as an expression of love and gratitude towards the land and the Creator.
The Chinese Canadian Artists Federation in Vancouver has provided significant support to this exhibition. Mrs. Greta Ho, President of the organization, and many of its executives have spent numerous hours day and night organizing the event. The participation of 73 artists makes it one of the largest overseas exhibitions by Chinese-Canadian artists in the recent years. There will be approximately 120 pieces on display, ranging from Chinese ink/color painting, calligraphy, oil/acrylic/water-color painting, to prints, mixed media, video and digital art, showing the ultimate commitment of the artists.
The Land exhibition of the Chinese Canadian Artists in Vancouver will be on a tour, making the first stop in Taiwan before moving on to China, Hong Kong and other countries. The National Taiwan Arts Education Center is greatly honored to host this grand event at its premises from March 8 to March 27, 2014.
On the eve of the event, I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the participants and contributors who have made this exhibition possible, and offer my congratulations on its upcoming success. I sincerely hope all my fellow art-lovers will come to enjoy the beauty of these artworks.
